Expert of the Week: Juha Karppinen – developing energy storages and harsh-environment electronics
Our Expert of the Week Juha Karppinen is a Doctor of Science working currently at Helen Oy with focus on development of on-grid energy storages, electromobility charging infrastructure and smart grid control.
“My professional interests are focused on development of e-mobility, energy storages and harsh-environment electronics.”
Juha has received M.Sc. degree in 2006 and D.Sc. degree in 2013 from Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering in the field of electronics reliability.
He has also worked 17 months as an energy storage specialist at Valmet Automotive, with focus on harsh environment electric vehicle battery pack integration. With everything combined he has over 10 years of experience in design for reliability, testing and root cause analysis, accompanied by over 5 years of experience in Li-ion energy storages.
“My greatest professional achievement so far has been the succesful projecting, procurement and deployment of the 1.2MW Suvilahti battery energy storage unit.”
